Sutton Council has launched a new anti-vaping campaign, ‘B Clear about Vaping’. Developed in collaboration with students from Carshalton Boys Sports College and funded by the Greater London Authority (GLA), the campaign aims to inform young people about the risks of vaping.

A recent survey, conducted by the Council's Public Health team, of secondary school students, revealed several misconceptions about vaping, highlighting the need for greater awareness. To help with this, the Council ran a competition where students could create a campaign that would connect with other young people.

The winning campaign, ‘B Clear about Vaping’, was selected for its powerful message.

Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for People at the London Borough of Sutton said: “We must take action now to prevent young people from becoming addicted to vapes and causing long term damage to their health. ‘B Clear about Vaping’ is a fantastic example of young people leading the way in educating their peers and promoting healthier choices. This initiative shows the positive impact we can make when we work together to protect our community’s future”.

Paul Avery, Deputy Head of Carshalton Boys Sports College said: “I am incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and creativity in developing the ‘B Clear about Vaping’ campaign. Their dedication to raising awareness and promoting healthy choices among their peers is truly inspiring. This campaign reflects their commitment to making a positive impact, and I couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve achieved.”

The campaign will be rolled out across the borough, reaching as many young people as possible.

‘B Clear about Vaping’ is part of a broader effort spearheaded by the Children and Young People’s Vaping Subgroup of the Substance Misuse Partnership, which brings together organisations dedicated to protecting young people from the dangers of vaping. These efforts are further bolstered by the upcoming Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which will introduce new measures to safeguard children and young people from the risks associated with vaping.
