If your child has an Education Health and Care Plan issued by a local authority, do not use this application form - please contact our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities team (SEND) for further advice and support.
When making your mainstream in-year application:
- you can only apply for mainstream schools in the London Borough of Sutton
- if you are not a UK National, you must check your child is eligible for free state funded education
- check the type of school you are applying for; ages 11-16 secondary school; ages 4-7 primary or infant school; ages 7-11 primary or junior school
- make sure you have any required documents to complete the application. You have the option to upload these at the end
- you must make a separate application for each child
Child's details
- the address used must be where the child is currently living
- if you are a resident in Sutton, provide your Council Tax reference number
- if you do not pay Council Tax in Sutton, or are not resident in Sutton, you must upload two proof of address documents
- provide details of your child’s current or previous school
Parent/Guardian or Carer details
Please provide at least one contact number and your email address. If you are not the child's parent, we will need more information to support the application.
You can add a second contact on the application if you wish.
If the child is currently or has previously been looked after by a local authority, you must provide additional information and documents.
Currently looked after -
- a letter from the social worker confirming the child is currently in the care of a local authority and details of the living arrangements
Previously looked after-
- A copy of the relevant court order, or a letter from a social worker, confirming that the child was previously looked after should be provided.
Evidence of how they left care should also be provided, which could include the following:
- an adoption order
- a copy of a Special Guardianship Order
- a child arrangement /residence order
If the child was adopted from outside of England, please provide any relevant documents for us to consider.

Preferences
List the schools in the order that you genuinely would prefer them.
Add the details of any sibling that is already attending at a school you are applying for. A sibling is part of the same family unit and is ordinarily living at the same address. No other relative will be considered as a sibling and should not be listed.
Some schools give priority to children who have a professionally supported medical or social reason to attend a particular school. Name the schools you wish to consider the information and provide your reasons. Evidence provided should be from a medical, educational or social care professional and can be uploaded at the end of the form. Check each school’s admissions criteria on their website for further information.

Required information
If your child lives in Sutton and is not offered one of your preference schools, information provided may be used to find an alternative.
If your child has recently arrived from abroad, you must provide documents to evidence their arrival in the UK.
Please provide any further relevant information that you feel will support your application.
If you are applying for secondary schools, please tell us if you think your child could be eligible for a place in one of Sutton's grammar schools. Your child may be invited to sit a Selective Eligibility Test, which will need to be passed if they are to be considered for a place.

In most circumstances we will not be able to update you on the status of your application for at least 20 school days after receipt; you should receive direct responses from preference schools within this time. Please do not email or call us about the status of your application until this time has passed as we will only ask you to wait for all outcomes to be received.
