Following the success of the Moon Bloom installation and the vibrant Moon Festival celebration in September, the iconic structure will be relocating to a new, permanent home at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont in late January 2025.

The Moon Bloom was installed in Trinity Square on Sutton High Street as part of the 2024 London Festival of Architecture and was designed by Adrienne Lau from the Edgy Collective. It celebrates Sutton’s rich cultural diversity and the borough’s heritage while supporting the local environment with its urban garden design.

The Moon Bloom will move to its permanent home in the new-look Community Garden at the London Cancer Hub after its temporary residency in the town centre. This garden has been transformed by Socius, the developer of the London Cancer Hub, into a tranquil and welcoming space for staff, patients and visitors.

With its vibrant raised beds and diverse range of plants and flowers, the Moon Bloom will enhance this tranquil setting, bringing bursts of colour and positivity to all who visit the garden. It aims to encourage relaxation, mindfulness and a deeper connection with nature, as well as fostering a calming environment for those who work, receive treatment and spend time at the London Cancer Hub.

The London Cancer Hub is already home to the renowned Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute for Cancer Research. It will continue to grow, following the Council’s selection of Aviva Capital Partners who are working with Socius to develop c5-hectares site on the campus. They will develop up to one million square feet of research, treatment and innovation spaces, alongside amenities to bring thousands of high-quality jobs to the borough and accelerate the development of ground-breaking cancer treatments.

Councillor Jake Short, Chair of Sutton Council’s Housing, Economy and Business Committee, said:
"I am delighted that the borough's first-ever moon gate will be relocating to the London Cancer Hub Community Garden after starting out at Trinity Square in Sutton town centre.

“The Moon Bloom will continue its celebration of our diverse communities while supporting the local environment. It has been a wonderful addition to Trinity Square during the Moon Festival celebration.

“I hope its new location will bring an even greater sense of calm and beauty to the community garden at the world-leading London Cancer Hub. Diversity and inclusion are what make Sutton such a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. I look forward to seeing the Moon Bloom in its new home in Belmont."

Adrienne Lau, from Edgy Collective said:
“Moon Bloom is a participatory installation that features a sculptural moongate, designed to harvest rainwater and nourish a nocturnal garden. Enriched by community mark-making and a diverse selection of plants that attract pollinators, it creates an inviting space where people and nature thrive together.

“It is a true honour to continue Moon Bloom's public contribution by re-homing it in the Community Garden of London Cancer Hub, where it can positively impact the healthcare environment and the wellbeing of its community. I am grateful to Sutton Council and the London Cancer Hub project team for their openness and support in making this possible.”

Joss Taylor, from Socius said:
“We are delighted London Cancer Hub is set to be the new, permanent home for The Moon Bloom. This addition to our community garden will help set the scene for our involvement, alongside Sutton Council, in the London Festival of Architecture 2025 where a captivating programme will showcase the world leading research taking place already and a glimpse of what is to come in the future”.
