The new Sutton Local Plan Consultation (Regulation 18)

Please note: The Council has now extended the consultation period to 26 September 2024.

A local plan, prepared by all Councils in consultation with its community, sets out a vision and a framework for the future development of an area over 15 years. It addresses the current and future needs for homes, employment, town centre uses, education, health, open spaces, transport and infrastructure. Once in place, the Local Plan will become part of Sutton’s statutory development plan, setting out planning policies that will be used to determine planning applications and allocated sites where development will take place for all types of uses.

The Council is producing a new Local Plan which will guide development in the borough between 2024-2041. If you live or work in the borough, then we want your views on how we can encourage new housing and employment space that will help our borough prosper, whilst retaining the suburban character of Sutton, and all the things we love about our area.

We are seeking your views on the Local Plan Issues and Preferred Options from 25 July 2024 to 26 September 2024.

This is the first consultation stage in preparing the new Local Plan and provides an opportunity for you to tell us what you think the new Local Plan should say. The Issues and Preferred Options document sets out the key issues which face the borough and options to address them. It also includes draft policies and potential development sites.

The Council is also consulting on the Local Plan Appendix, which includes changes to the policies map and the Sustainability Appraisal incorporating Habitats Regulations Assessment and Equalities Impact Assessment.

In addition, the Council has published its Local Plan Review Evidence Library, which contains a number of important documents that have informed the preparation of this plan
