We are celebrating the Moon Festival this Saturday 21st September and the installation of Sutton’s first ‘Moon Bloom’ and urban garden at Sutton’s Mid Autumn Festival. Join us at Throwley Yard cinema, off Sutton High Street, from 4.30pm through to early evening where there will be a food market, performances, family friendly activities and lantern making.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Chinese Harvest Festival, is an important celebration in Asian and Chinese culture. Taking place in the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar, usually in September or October, this festival celebrates the autumn harvest under the moon's brightest and fullest phase.
If you have visited Sutton high street this week you may have noticed the ‘Moon Bloom’ in Trinity Square. The Moon Bloom celebrates our diverse communities and supports the local environment with its urban garden. Designed by Adrienne Lau from the Edgy Collective as part of the London Festival of Architecture celebrations in 2024, this flexible and movable structure will create a welcoming space in Sutton. The design reflects the culture and heritage of Sutton's diverse communities.
I’m proud of our borough’s welcoming and inclusive community and the Moongate installation shows our commitment to embracing and celebrating our existing communities and welcoming new ones. I encourage everyone to join me in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and experiencing the warmth and diversity of Sutton.
