This week was Young Carers Action Day and I had the privilege of meeting with some of our dedicated young carers.
It’s eye-opening to learn that the average age of young carers accessing services at the Sutton Carers Centre is just 10 years old.
These remarkable young people often balance caring responsibilities, education, and household tasks, leaving them with little time for a typical childhood, let alone a break. It was lovely to meet so many of them and to hear from them directly about how we can best support them. I enjoyed my time chatting and eating some pizza with them!
The young carers spoke about their interests and what they like doing when away from their caring responsibilities. These ranged from gaming to football. They also talked about their love of Japanese Anime art, which I had to admit I knew very little about. Later the Anime art of one young carer, Miles J was shared with me and I have included it here, pretty impressive!
