The London Borough of Sutton’s children’s residential homes, have received an overall “good” rating in their recent Ofsted inspection. Willow Rise first opened in July 2020, forming a key part of the Council’s plan to address the lack of accommodation for children in care. Following investment from the Council two additional satellite children’s homes were opened last year, making it the first registered multi-building children’s home in London.

The first inspection of the homes took place in January 2025, with inspectors noting that they provided its children with the “high-quality, individualised care” required to help them lead fulfilling lives. Staff were also described as "stable and dedicated," providing a "good family-style atmosphere and consistency of care" for the young people living there.

Other key highlights from the report included a note from inspectors that management and the leadership team demonstrated a “genuine commitment to the children in their care”.

One young person who through Willow Rise was able to spend their Christmas holidays in safe accommodation, commented on how it was “the best Christmas of my life”.

Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for Children Services said:

“I would like to congratulate the staff and managers of Willow Rise Residential Services who work tirelessly to create a safe space for our children and young people.

“Five years ago the Council made the decision to build our very own children’s provision in response to the national shortage of accommodation for children in care. Today’s rating by Ofsted shows that by keeping the needs of children central in our decision making we can help them to thrive.”
