Sutton Stands Silent

Last Sunday, a silent peace vigil was held in Sutton attended by people of all faiths and none. The event, offered a moment for reflection and demonstrated a collective understanding of the importance of unity and peace.

Sutton and the UK have not experienced war directly for almost 80 years, and the upcoming 80th anniversary of VE Day in May will remind us of this. There are over 45 armed conflicts  currently raging across the globe.  Sutton's increasingly diverse community highlights the direct impact that world events have on people's lives.

Running the council is about supporting our local communities.  As Leader I know how important it is that we deliver the services that for many people are vital to daily life. Looking after our vulnerable adults and children, ensuring our waste is collected and making sure our parks remain green and pleasant and safe to play in.  In Sutton we do this well and we work well with all our partners to make sure that Sutton is a great place to live, work and raise a family.

By reflecting in silence for a short while reminds us that Sutton and our residents are part of and are shaped by world events.
