This Tuesday marked World Cancer Day, a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. In Sutton, that work is already happening at the London Cancer Hub (LCH), where new discoveries for the treatment and cure of cancer are being made on a regular basis. Major investment from the insurance giant Aviva alongside the continued support of the Institute of Cancer Research, the Royal Marsden and the Council will make the LCH the most important and largest cancer drug discovery centre in the world. This is big for Sutton with exciting job and economic opportunities for our residents. I was delighted to host London's Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber in Sutton this week where we talked about Sutton’s vital role in London’s future growth.
The Deputy Mayor's visit to Sutton also provided an opportunity to showcase the borough's ambitious regeneration plans, including the transformation of Sutton Town Centre and the continued development of the LCH These projects aim to create jobs, attract investment, and support local businesses. The Council is committed to working with partners to ensure that the borough continues to grow and thrive, while also contributing to the economic growth of London as a whole.
During the visit, I emphasised the need for continued support and investment from the Mayor of London and the government to unlock Sutton's full potential.
With the continued development of the LCH and ambitious regeneration plans for the borough, Sutton is poised to become a major contributor to London's economy and firmly establish itself as the global leader in the fight against cancer.
