Willow Rise Children’s Home, located in Carshalton, has continued to achieve a ‘good’ rating with ‘outstanding’ leadership, following a recent Ofsted inspection.

The Ofsted report noted how Willow Rise has a welcoming and family feel and how the trusted and positive relationships between staff and children are a strength of the home. The report also acknowledged that children receive individualised and consistent care as reflected in their care plans, and are well supported to make good progress in all areas.

Nationally, there continues to be a shortage of registered residential care providers who can support children looked after. Sutton Council is investing a further £2 million on new homes to support children to remain in their community. This approach means that the Council is able to offer a 'home from home' within the local community that is familiar to Sutton’s children and supported by local staff and resources.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of the Council’s People Committee, said: “The feedback from the recent Ofsted inspection and report has been very positive and encouraging and I have absolute confidence in the leadership team at Willow Rise to continue to work in the best interests of children placed in their care.

“With a rising national need for care home provision, it is critical that more homes like Willow Rise are built for young people in our care. That’s why we are investing a further £2 million in creating new residential placements to provide supportive homes for children locally.

“We want all of Sutton’s children and young people to have a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive, and we are committed to giving them that opportunity to live their best lives, with the best support.”

There are two additional homes awaiting registration from Ofsted. The Council is also investing in creating new accommodation for its care leavers, whom the Council is responsible for until they reach 25.
