Throwley Yard, Sutton's eagerly-awaited new cultural destination, was launched this week by the Leader of Sutton Council, Councillor Barry Lewis.

As part of the Council's ambitious town centre regeneration plans, the former Chicago's nightclub on Throwley Road has been transformed into an independent cinema, DJ school, bar, cafe and shared community space.

The four cinema screens at Throwley Yard offer an immersive and unique cinema experience for residents and visitors alike. The cutting-edge screens are equipped with the latest technology to showcase a diverse range of films, documentaries and cultural content, reinforcing Throwley Yard's commitment to enriching and dynamic cultural experiences in the borough.

Leader of Sutton Council, Councillor Barry Lewis, said:
"The official opening of Throwley Yard marks the latest milestone in creating a vibrant town centre for everyone in Sutton to experience and enjoy at night-time as well.

“Now we have a fantastic new addition to bring to life our town centre in the evenings. Throwley Yard will offer a unique blend of entertainment, education and community engagement and will become another go-to cultural destination for all Sutton residents and visitors.”

In collaboration with the Really Local Group, known for their successful projects in London, Sutton Council is proud to contribute to the town's cultural revival. The project is funded by the Government's Future High Streets Fund and council investment.

Throwley Yard's diverse offer will cater for a wide range of tastes, ensuring that it becomes a cultural destination for everyone both in Sutton and beyond.

Preston Benson, Founder of Really Local Group, said:
“Throwley Yard Cinema has been in the works for a number of years. Built on the site of the former Chicago’s nightclub, the venue has undergone a huge amount of renovation to reinvigorate the space as a cultural hub in the heart of the high street, bringing a wide range of film and culture to the local community.

“We’re very proud of the space we’ve created and we look forward to Sutton locals enjoying the new venue and rich programme of films and events that it will offer.”
