We are asking for views on plans to make it easier to walk and cycle between Belmont Station and the London Cancer Hub (LCH).
This revamp will make walking and cycling between the two locations safer, more enjoyable and accessible for people living, working, and studying in the area. The works are a key part of the preparations for the LCH to become Europe’s leading cancer research district and provide thousands of jobs for Sutton residents.
Have your say on a whole range of proposed improvements, including new signage to help you find your way more easily; improved lighting for safety; wider footpaths to accommodate more people; seating areas for rest; planting flowers to support the environment and a new zebra crossing for pedestrian safety.
The consultation opens on Friday 19 July 2024 and will close at midnight on Sunday 1 September 2024. You can access the consultation here: https://sutton.citizenspace.com/strategic-planning/belmont-to-lch
You can also attend one of the community drop-in sessions to find out more about the designs, meet the team and ask questions on:
- Tuesday 23 July 2024, 1pm - 4pm at the Innovation Gateway, London Cancer Hub
- Thursday 25 July 2024, from 5.30pm - 8.30pm at Harris Academy Sutton
- Wednesday 28 August 2024, 1pm - 4pm at the Innovation Gateway, London Cancer Hub
- Friday 30 August 2024, from 5.30pm - 8.30pm at Harris Academy Sutton
Residents and businesses can also take part in a second consultation on proposals for developing the London Cancer Hub site itself, how the community will be engaged and how public feedback has been incorporated. This consultation is open until Thursday 15 August 2024.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Sutton Council, said:
“The London Cancer Hub will put Sutton and Belmont at the heart of the search for a cure for cancer.
“These improvements will make everyone’s journeys safer and easier.
“We are committed to creating a welcoming and efficient route for those travelling between Belmont Station and the LCH. This project is a key part of our strategy to support the local economy and the thousands of new job opportunities that the LCH will bring to Sutton.”
