Placecube: set up 2-factor authentication
The first time you log in to Placecube, you'll be asked to change your password and set up account security.
2-factor authentication is a common security tool to verify your identity. You may already use it for things like accessing online banking.
You have two options when setting up 2-factor authentication to secure your Placecube account.
Google single sign on
This allows you to verify your identity with one click.
You can use this if you have a Google account that you use for work. This includes emails ending in @sutton.gov.uk, @kingston.gov.uk, @kingston.partners, and @encompass-latc.co.uk.
Using an authentication app
You can also verify your identity by entering a code into Placecube. The code can be generated by the Google Authenticator app on a smartphone.
Google Authenticator is free and available on most devices.
If you access Modern Desktop/Citrix, you may already use the Google Authenticator app on your phone to generate a code. You can add Placecube as another option on the app.
Setting up Google Authenticator app
- On the sign in page, enter your email address and password and click sign in.
- A QR code (a black and white patterned box) will appear on screen.
- Find Google Authenticator on your phone and open it.
- Tap the Plus icon on your phone screen, and choose 'Scan a QR code'.
- This will open your phone camera - point it at the QR code on your computer screen.
- A 6 digit code for 'Sutton website' will now appear in your authenticator app.
- Enter this code in the 'Authenticator app code' field on Placecube and sign in.
Your 2-factor authentication is now set up. You will need to enter a code every time you log in to Placecube.
Make sure you use the code for the ‘Sutton website’ if you have more than one code being generated.
