Wearing our poppies with Pride

The red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Remembrance Sunday is this weekend and this day is our chance to remember those who have died in world wars and other conflicts.
This year, Sutton’s official Civic Act of Remembrance service and parade will take place at the War Memorial in Cheam Common Road in Worcester Park. Along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Sutton, I will be there to remember those from our borough who lost their lives in conflict. Everyone is welcome to join us for the service and parade.
Afterwards at the Worcester Park Royal British Legion Social Club there will be live music from Hannah Evans, performing wartime favourites, along with a charity auction supporting the Poppy Appeal. Again, everyone is welcome to come along.
If you are unable to come to Worcester Park, then please see our website to see the other Remembrance Events taking place across the borough this weekend.
An Act of Remembrance will also be taking place on Armistice Day itself, on Monday 11th November 2024 at 10.50am in Trinity Square, Sutton town centre (outside Waterstone’s), during which the two minutes silence will be observed. The Mayor, Cllr Colin Stears, the Mayoress, Sue Stears and Madam Deputy Mayor, Cllr Louise Phelan, will be in attendance and would be delighted if you were able to attend.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
