Waste collections for disabled persons
If you are finding it difficult to move your bins to the front of your property on collection day and there is no one else in your household that can help, then you may be eligible for an Assisted Collection.
This service is designed to help Sutton residents who struggle physically to move their bins. We may also be able to provide help on a temporary basis (for example, people recovering from an operation) or on a long-term basis (to help residents with a permanent disability).
If you are eligible, we will agree on a location in your front garden where our collection crews will collect your bins. They will return them to this location after emptying them.
Conditions of the service
- All waste and recycling bins should be left permanently stored within the front of the property to allow collection crews to access them on the day of collection
- Collection crews will not collect bins, boxes or caddies that are situated behind gates, to the side/rear of a property, or where more than two steps are in place
- We will not be able to collect bins, boxes or caddies that are obstructed or inaccessible due to parked vehicles
- We ask that bins are labelled if possible with the house number to help the collection crews return the correct bins to the property
- Residents are still responsible for ensuring there is no contamination within their bins, boxes or caddies. More information can be found on the page Your collection service
- In the event of a missed collection, residents are still responsible for reporting the issue to enable us to resolve it. More information can be found on the page Report a missed collection
- We are unable to offer the Assisted Collection Service to communal properties or those on the Flats Above Shops Bag Service
- If a person is found living in the house that could move the bins your Assisted Collection will be stopped
- The council will review the Assisted Collection Service periodically and may write to residents to verify eligibility
