Applying for a Freedom Pass

If you’re 66 or over and live in London, you can:

Renewing your Freedom Pass

If your Freedom Pass expires on 31 March and you're at the same address, or you've notified London Councils of your new address, you'll automatically receive a new Freedom Pass in the post before your current one expires.

If you haven't notified London Councils of a change of address

If your address has changed since you received your last Freedom Pass and you haven't notified London Councils, you'll need to provide one of the following so your address can be updated: 

  • a current council tax bill, letter or payment book
  • a current council or housing association rent book, statement, letter or tenancy agreement
  • a current TV licence
  • a printout of a residential utility bill, letter or online statement dated within the last 3 months (we won't accept mobile phone bills)
  • an HM Revenue and Customs letter dated within the last 3 months
  • a Department for Work and Pensions letter dated within the last 3 months
  • an occupational pension letter dated within the last three months

If you're 60 or over and haven’t reached state retirement age, you can apply for a 60+ Oyster card on the TfL website. It gives you free travel in London on:

  • buses
  • DLR 
  • London Overground 
  • most National Rail services in London
  • tram
  • Tube
