Sutton Council is committed to providing a safer environment for all road users and making it easier for people to walk and cycle in the area if they wish to.
After feedback from a significant number of residents, along with discussions with local ward councillors, we have developed some proposals and are encouraging residents to let us know what they think.
We are asking local residents and businesses for feedback on the proposals for introducing a 20mph speed limit in a number of roads in the borough.
We are not proposing 20mph zones for all roads in the borough: instead, we have listened to local feedback and developed proposed schemes to find out if they meet a need in each local area.
We believe that 20mph has huge benefits to improving the road safety, including:
A School Street is a road outside a school with a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. During the restricted times, school streets remain open to pedestrians, cyclists and exempted vehicles.
We have a number of school streets in the borough and we are consulting with local residents and ward councillors to get feedback about introducing more school streets in the borough.
We are planning on introducing Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) rstrictions on certain roads in the borough. This means that vehicles which weigh 7.5 tonnes or heavier will not be allowed to drive through these areas without stopping.
